Life drawing

Here are some of the pictures from my life drawing class, be warned artistic nudity! I used a mixture of charcoals and inks and i'm very very happy with them( partially because I love the spontanious feel of life drawing and how it forces you to do quick bold lines and partially because you can actually see me get better as the evening goes on)! Much better than the ones I was gunna post last week done with photos.

change of plan

although I promised life drawing in my next update gunna have to set that aside for now. I've decided enter the 2000AD competition at Leeds thought bubble this weekend so all my efforts are going on this as well as putting together a simple portfolio to show off and send to marvel.

i'm under no impressions that i'll win with my peices I enter but I think I need the practice and hopefully i'll get some much needed critique on the sunday in the critique panel. Also, it pads out my portfolio for next year. I'm very excited.

Some quick partials

coloured version of the sketch I did the other day, added arms which won't be empty so the pose won't be as weird, will add background and will clean up lines and fix the face a bit, having a lot fo fun with my character design actually. I've also had the idea of masks which I will be incorporating into my logo I think, here's a couple more rubbishy sketches which i'll be using for my finished work.

I also accidentally clicked the layer which had the original sketch in and it came up looking like this which I think looks pretty fucking cool. Makes it seem really 3D, may experiment with this sort of effect in the future.

I've been doing some figure draing practice and will be doing a life drawing class of next week in Curve Gallery in Liverpool for the all time low price of £10, very excited about this and I will be posting some of my figure drawing in my next update and my life drawing in the update after. In my next update I'll include some screenshots of my in progess website I think.

Quick sketches..

been doing a lot of quick sketches tonight of Hel. I really like the idea of the first look at her being a of her rotted side, a lot of films/comics have the timing that if something is half decayed/dead/ugly blah blah that the first thing you see is the reassuring side, I want it to be the opposite as her character isn't ashamed whatsoever of her decomposition.

I've also thrown a bit of myself into her design, I like thats he would change bits of herself when the mood hits, in the top image I drew her in a 20's flapper type outfit, not norse at all but one of the reasons she managed to survive and upkeep her domain is because other gods don't adapt, that's her strength and her weakness. I really like my top image so it will probably be re worked in a couple fo days, I want to give her a chainmail flapper dress because that's how she rolls !

Also, here is a cave troll. I liked drawing him immensely and he will be a character, I purposely made him a bit turtley though...Aw.

had a mess round with photoshop brushes and lightings, wanted a bleached out white effect, will probably apply this technique to the comic as i'm very very happy with it :)

Some more competition entries!

The first is for Tiger Prints female relationship card competition. I wanted to make this one a bit more mainstream. It's marketed towards an older couple, I think older men are more inclined to buy a comedy card than a pink frilly romantic one, so I chose a more neautral pallet but still made it romancy, i've also found that older women tend to be more self concious about their age so I thought a card helping with their esteem on the issue was called for.

My second image is for save the frogs art competition I found earlier today. It's an issue I actually care about and it also links in with my want to help with causes so i've had a lot fo fun doing it. I wanted the frog to be vibrant and beautiful against a desolate impeding background,to help with awareness and push the necessity for action. The competition ends tomorrow so anyone should enter: save the frogs!

so, here's the first page of my comic. I'm looking into creating my own website to post this on regularily but for now i'll post the first few pages. My aim is to get the first chapter finished this term, with at leats one page a week. I want it to be a blunt first chapter.

I will change the etxt to a more readable format at a later date.
